Introductions

Hi all, welcome to my journal.
I go by thewiggins or Wiggins here in fandom and my preferred pronouns are they/them.
I am an on-again, off-again writer of fanfic, mostly for Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I am currently working on a fantasy novel, so I don't have as much time for fanfic as I'd like, but I still plug away at it as I can. Currently, most of my posted fics are pretty short, but I have a couple of longer WIPs that I hope to finish and get on AO3 at some point before the heat death of the universe. (My combo of pantser and perfectionist makes it pretty much impossible for me to post chapter-by-chapter, I have to have a first draft of the whole thing before I start posting.)
I've also recently been exploring the very different world of sci-fi/fantasy/horror readers and writers. It's technically still fandom, but it's a very different flavor of fandom. That said, I'm hardly the only person who straddles both worlds.
Anyway, here's a little summary of who I am in this strand of the fannish multiverse.
Primary fandom:
BtVS
Forms of fan interaction:
read, write, participate in events, occasionally do fan art
Favorite BtVS characters:
Willow, Buffy, Spike, Giles, Drusilla (in that order)
Favorite AtS characters:
Lorne, Fred, Illyria, Lilah, Cordy
Favorite pairing:
A tie between Spuffy and All the Femslash. I know "All the Femslash" isn't technically a pairing. But there are just so many good femslash pairings in the Buffyverse and I just couldn't begin to chose.
Some fandom events/groups I've participated in:
Buffyverse Top 5, Seasonal Spuffy, Summer of Giles, Headline Awards, Femslash Minis (which is now sadly defunct)
Other fandoms whose fic/art/vids I love:
the MCU (especially the Norse inspired characters), Lucifer, Harry Potter (though JKR's transphobia has lessened my enjoyment of that franchise)
Fandoms I generally like and wish I had more time for:
Star Trek, particularly Voyager (I've got a huge fondness for both Janeway and Seven); The Umbrella Academy; Lord of the Rings; Doctor Who (I'm way behind on the show anyway); Gentleman Jack; Jonathan Strange and Mister Norell; mythology fandoms; Steven Universe; Red Dwarf; Stranger Things; Watchmen (TV), Good Omens, Diskworld...

There are a lot of us determined to continue and write our subversive and cheerfully queer stories without letting JKR spoil our fun and all that fandom has meant to us, and I hope you, too, can still find enjoyment in HP fanworks. <3

Date: 2021-01-02 06:19 pm (UTC)As I think my post suggested, I don't necessarily think my perfectionism is a good thing and it's certainly the main reason I don't have a novel-length fic posted. But at a certain point, you've got to try to work with the process you have, not wish you had someone else's.
And I absolutely support and adore all the people who are writing LGBT+ friendly HP content! I mean, if I allowed a problematic creator to prevent me from enjoying a fandom, I'd have to bail on Buffy as well and that would just break my heart. I guess it's just our duty as fans to be better than the creators and make the kinds of stories we wish they'd written.
